About Wuhan University
Located in Wuhan, Hubei, China, the Wuhan Institution of Technology (WUT) is a public institution. As of right now, the institution offers 82 bachelor’s degrees, 135 master’s programs, 74 doctoral programs, and nine state-important disciplines. WUT employs 5,570 people in total, of whom 650 are professors, three senior supervisors from the China Academy of Engineering, and three high-level mentors from the China Academy of Science. Wuhan is the capital of Hubei Province, People’s Republic of China, and is the most populous city in Central China. It lies at the east of the Jianghan Plain, and at the intersection of the middle reaches of the Yangtze and Han Rivers. Wuhan is one of the three scientific and educational centers of China, along with Beijing and Shanghai. The city of Wuhan has 82 higher educational institutions, among them 7 are national universities. Wuhan ranks 3rd in China in scientific and educational strength: it contains three national development zones and four scientific and technological development parks, as well as numerous enterprise incubators, over 350 research institutes, 1470 hi-tech enterprises, and over 400,000 experts and technicians.
School Of International Education
Wuhan University has a long history of international students’ education. Since the 1950s, it has begun to enroll overseas students. It is one of the earliest universities to recruit foreign students. In 2016, Wuhan University had more than 3500 international students, covering 200 majors in 30 schools (departments, research centers), and now it has developed gradually into the biggest international student destination in central and western China.
The University established the School of International Education (SIE) in October 2014 to enhance its internationalization by integrating international education resources. The SIE is responsible for enrolling and cultivating international students, conducting education and research on teaching Chinese as a foreign language, studying abroad education, and overseeing related daily administration. The school also takes charge of the Center of Teaching Resources Research and Development for International Promotion of Chinese.

Student Visa
Once admitted, you will receive the university’s letter of admission and JW202 form. The applicant can apply for an X1 or X2 visa at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate General in your home country.
When applying for your visa, please remember to take along with you your valid passport, the original copy of the university’s admission notification, and a Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China (also known as the JW201/JW202 form). You will need these documents to apply for your Residence Permit after your arrival at the university.
International Students who will be studying in China must possess ordinary passports with study visas (Category X). The students who enter China with other kinds of visas can not study at Wuhan University or get residence permits. Important: The Student Visa ‘X1’ Visa will only be valid for 30 days after your arrival. You must apply for a Residence Permit within these 30 days in order to obtain legal status in China at Wuhan Municipal Public Security Bureau.
Furthermore, you are not eligible to apply for a Residence Permit until you are a registered student of Wuhan University, namely before the day of registration.

International students with study visas (Category X) shall apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days after arrival in China. Late applicants will have to shoulder the responsibility for the delay and overdue fine.

Students’ Union & Activities
Wuhan University International Students Union (WISU) is the representative body of international students at Wuhan University, China. WISU was founded in 2001 . Now it has developed into a well-organized student union. We are the bridge between the international and the local students of Wuhan University, and also the bridge between international students and the School of International Education.
WISU is the umbrella organization for all clubs and societies handled by international students, like Model United Nations (WISMUN) or the WISU Press Club. Our range of activities includes educational events, like lectures or language corners; recreational activities like sports competitions or cultural activities like performances, fashion shows, or our biggest event: the annual Wuhan University International Culture Festival.

Eligibility Criteria
- The applicants must be citizens of countries other than China.
- The applying students must have good health.
- To apply for a Master’s degree, the maximum age limit is 35 years and the student must have a Bachelor’s degree.
- To apply for a Doctoral degree, the maximum age limit is 40 years and the student must have a Master’s degree.
- The students who want to study in the Chinese-medium program must have a score of 4 or greater in the HSK certificate for the programs of science and engineering.
- The students who want to study in the programs of liberal arts and medical programs must have an HSK score of 5 or greater.
- The students not achieving the required level of Chinese language have to do Chinese language training courses for one year prior to moving to their degree study.
- The students who studied in Chinese or can provide proof of studying at a previous institution in the Chinese language can apply for an HSK test waiver from Wuhan University of Technology.
- The applicant students who studied in English medium programs should provide the certificate of English Language test. The minimum score for TOEFL is 80 and for IELTS is 6.
- English proficiency certificate is exempted for Native English-speaking students.
- This scholarship has not been offered to those students who are already studying in China.
