Scholarship Description:

International Students can apply for the University of Houston USA International Merit Student Scholarship 2023. The scholarship covers Bachelor’s and Master’s level programs at the University of Houston in the subject of All Subjects offered. The scholarship deadline is June 15, 2023. The University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) International Merit Student Scholarship is a scholarship program for international students who exhibit academic proficiency and excellent academic potential. The scholarship is based on academic excellence and may pay some or all of the recipient’s tuition and expenses. All overseas students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees at UHV are eligible for the award. Scholarship amounts and numbers may fluctuate from year to year, and winners may be required to maintain a particular GPA in order to continue receiving the scholarship. As an international student, studying at the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) may be a tough yet rewarding experience. International students will be able to immerse themselves in a varied and welcoming environment where they will be able to study from experienced instructors and engage with students from other countries and backgrounds. The institution offers resources to assist overseas students in adjusting to life in the United States and succeeding academically. Language assistance, academic guidance, and access to on-campus resources are among them. International students are also encouraged to get involved in extracurricular activities, clubs, and organizations to enrich their educational experience. It should be noted that studying in a foreign country can be difficult and requires a high level of adaptability and independence. Students from other countries should be prepared to deal with cultural differences, language barriers, and homesickness. Scholarship Benefits:

  • The International Merit Scholarship is open to all undergraduate and graduate students. The scholarship can reduce the total cost of attendance by $3000-$10,000 (two semesters). The scholarship will reflect the resident tuition rate for international students on F-1 and J-1 visas. The scholarship solely covers tuition and fees. This scholarship does not cover any additional expenditures, such as lodging, food, transportation, personal expenses, books, supplies, or health insurance. The scholarship grant is exclusively valid for studies at UHV. Autumn awardees are eligible for grants and exemptions for the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Full-time undergraduate and graduate studies at UHV. This grant gives a $1000 guaranteed scholarship for on-campus students.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • UHV student admitted
  • At the time of the grant, the student must be enrolled in at least 12 credits at UHV for undergraduate students and 9 credits for graduate students.
  • To graduate, returning/current students must have two semesters remaining (the semester receiving the scholarship cannot be the final semester)
  • Returning/current students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher for undergraduates and 3.0 or higher for graduate students.
  • Volunteer opportunities must be authorized ahead of time. All spring scholarship recipients must reapply for the autumn merit scholarship before the deadline if applicable (see below).
  • International students and students with non-immigrant visas
  • F-1 and J-1 students must be in the appropriate visa status on or before the expiration date of their immigration documents.
  • F-1 and J-1 students are required to attend International Student Orientation in either Victoria or Katy.
  • All non-immigrant students must have strong academic and immigration records.
  • Have a proven track record of academic success.
  • Fill out BOTH scholarship application forms.

To begin, fill out the online UHV General Scholarship Application. (When you finish this application, it may claim that the deadline has gone. Don’t worry about it; just keep working on the application. Regardless of the date, we require you to complete this application as well).

  • Enter your UHV username and password to log in.
  • Second, apply for an International Student Merit Scholarship. Please keep in mind that you will need to attach the required application criteria. When you press submit, the application and any submitted materials are instantly delivered to the International Programs Office.
  • Both of the aforementioned applications MUST be submitted in order for your scholarship application to be considered.

Application Procedure:

Admission to UHV is required for all students. Scholarship applications will not be assessed for students with incomplete admissions or who are not admitted.

Returning and Current Students
All criteria and requirements apply to current and returning UHV students. Current/returning students must guarantee that they have two semesters left to finish their degree program.

  • Recipients must continue to work full-time.
  • During the awarding semester/year, students must maintain acceptable academic and immigration status.
  • Throughout the life of the program, scholarship recipients must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
  • Contribute 10 volunteer hours to International Programs throughout the fall, spring, and summer semesters to help with events including International Education Week, International Sash Ceremony, and International Festival.
  • F-1 and J-1 visa holders are international students.
  • Orientation is required for all new overseas students.
  • All outstanding university costs must be paid on or before the due dates by the scholarship winner.
  • Recipients who progress from a bachelor’s degree program to a master’s degree program must reapply for the award.
  • Recipients must continue to work full-time.
  • During the awarding semester/year, students must maintain acceptable academic and immigration status.
  • Every year, the International Merit Scholarship is not guaranteed. Students must apply again by the deadline.
  • For Fall prizes, students will be contacted by email by the first week of July.
