Details

In order to conserve, spread and deepen Wilfried Martens’ European political heritage and ideas, Mrs Miet Smet-Martens, the European People’s Party and his Alma Mater have established in December 2014 the KU Leuven Wilfried Martens Fund.

The Fund establishes the ‘Wilfried Martens Scholarship’ for students from non-EU Member States allowing them to follow the Master of European Politics and Policies (MEPP) at KU Leuven during the academic year 2021-2022 (September-June). Students that are eligible and who wish to study an English taught one-year master degree at KU Leuven are invited to apply for the scholarship.

Benefits

Successful scholarship applicants will receive the following benefits:

  • Monthly paid (September-June) living expenses
  • Tuition Fee
  • Affiliation with a Belgian Health Insurance Company
  • Third Party Liability Insurance

Eligibility

To be eligible for Fully Funded Wilfried Martens Scholarships, applicants must:

  • belong from all provinces and regions of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo
  • have a 4 Year University Degree: 3 Year Bachelors + 1 Year Masters or 4Year Bachelors of 240 ECTS credits:
    • Students should have outstanding academic results
    • Accepted degrees are in the fields of Political Science, Sociology, Law, Economics or Contemporary European History
    • We welcome applications from candidates with a degree from other disciplines than he ones mentioned above, either based on:
      • relevant professional experience (in for example policy analysis or policy implementation)
      • or if the candidate demonstrates a strong motivation to study the public sector and its different aspects
  • As the Master of European Politics and Policies is completely taught in English, applicants are required to demonstrate proficiency in the English language

Application

For Fully Funded Wilfried Martens Scholarships, Applications have to be submitted online through the website of the KU Leuven Admissions Office:

  • PDF scans of the original university diploma(s)
  • PDF scans of the original transcripts of academic records
  • An official explanation of the grading system used in the academic institution(s) where the student pursued the graduate studies
  • Proof of proficiency in English (i.e. TOEFL,IELTS, CAE or ITACE)
  • Curriculum Vitae, and a two-page motivation letter regarding your application for the Master of European Politics and Policies and (as a conditio sine que non) a separate motivation letter on your application for the Wilfried Martens Scholarship
  • An experience statement (and if possible, proof) referring to your experience with writing papers or a dissertation, preferably in English
  • Scan of passport/ID
