For almost 30 years Cambridge Australia Scholarships (CAS) has been supporting Australia’s brightest graduates to follow their dreams and study abroad. We support outstanding Australian graduates to undertake Masters and PhD studies at the University of Cambridge, England.

Benefits

The full scholarship is approximately $80,000 per annum inclusive of university fees and a maintenance allowance at the single student rate set for graduate admission.

The duration of the award is up to 3 years for PhD students.

Masters Scholarships

Our aim is to foster candidates’ intellectual, ethical and spiritual life to enable them to become effective leaders in the community. 

ALL STATES

1. Davis McCaughey Cambridge Australia Scholarship(s) may cover both full and/or half of the costs associated with coursework Masters degrees (except MBA) and are available to applicants Australia wide.

2. The Cambridge Australia A P Platt Scholarship(s) cover half the costs associated with the coursework Masters degrees (except MBA) and are available to applicants Australia wide.

Note: Some scholarships are tied to specific colleges or have a strong preference for a given college. 

To be eligible applicants must:

  • Show proven academic ability, supported by appropriate references;
  • Demonstrate achievements in other field(s) and the energy to use their talents to the full as exemplified by contribution to the community and organisations to which they belong; and
  • Be of excellent character and have a commitment to ethical leadership.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed in varying states for these scholarships. International students are not eligible.

To apply, applicants do not need to have fully completed their undergraduate studies, but must be near completion, e.g. one to two semesters remaining.  If your application is successful you will be issued with a conditional offer that depends on your successful completion of an Australian degree. Your Australian degree must be completed before you can commence studies at University of Cambridge.

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Meet with members of Cambridge Australia Scholarships, and donors, prior to leaving for Cambridge;
  • Keep Cambridge Australia Scholarships informed about their academic and other activities at the end of each term and on completion of their course; and
  • Allow Cambridge Australia Scholarships to publicise their achievements as scholars.

On completion of their course, successful scholars are expected to:

  • Encourage others to apply for Scholarships;
  • Meet with past, current and prospective scholars; and
  • Make contributions to the scholarship fund where possible.

PhD Scholarships

We offer scholarships for Australian graduates of outstanding academic merit to study for a PhD degree at University of Cambridge.

Each scholarship is tenable for three years and covers:

  • University fees
  • A maintenance allowance at the single student rate set for graduate admission
  • A contribution towards a return airfare to the UK.

Up to ten competitive scholarships are awarded each year by Cambridge Australia Scholarships.  The scholarships have been made possible through the generosity of a number of Cambridge alumni and others  in Australia, in partnership with the Cambridge Commonwealth, European and International Trust. 

Note: Some scholarships are tied to specific colleges or have a strong preference for a given college.  

To be eligible applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Have a degree  from a recognised Australian university
  • Have gained admission to the University of Cambridge to undertake a PhD degree.

Generally, successful applicants for our PhD scholarships have been awarded (or are likely to achieve) a First Class Honours degree or equivalent. In the case of a research or course-work Master’s degree, the overall quality of performance must also be of an equivalent standing. 

Applicants do not need to have fully completed their course to apply to the University of Cambridge, but must be near completion—e.g., one to two semesters remaining.  If your application is successful you will be issued with a conditional offer that depends on your successful completion of an Australian degree to a suitably high standard.  The Australian degree must be completed before students can commence at the University of Cambridge.

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Keep us informed of your academic and other activities at the end of each term and on completion of your course; and
  • Allow us to publicise your achievements.

On completion of your course, you will be expected to:

  • Encourage others to apply for Cambridge Australia Scholarships;
  • Meet with past, current and prospective Scholars; and
  • Raise and make contributions to the Scholarship fund where possible.

Application

Applications for Cambridge Australia Scholarships need to be made directly through the Graduate Admissions Office at the University of Cambridge, that is, students apply for admission to Cambridge and indicate that they wish to be considered for funding including merit-based scholarships.

You can apply for admission to a postgraduate degree, a College place and various sources of funding (including the Cambridge Australia Scholarship) via the University of Cambridge’s Graduate Applicant Portal.
